The Mission House also known as Kemp House, is the oldest and a historic building in Kerikeri and is a great landmark known throughout New Zealand. Along the Kerikeri Basin in Northland, New Zealand, the Mission House/Kemp House is one of the few heritage buildings still standing and intact along with the Stone Store and Mission Station. This house dates back to 1822, but due to its location, the threat of being demolished by a flood or traffic could easily see the end of this part of New Zealand's history.
The Stone Store at KeriKeri New Zealand's oldest stone building, was built in 1832-36. Designed by Wesleyan missionary John Hobbs and built by an ex-convict stonemason from New South Wales. The Store was meant to house New Zealand mission supplies and large quantities of wheat from the mission farm at Te Waimate. When the wheat failed the building was mainly leased as a kauri gum trading store.
Kerikeri is widely known for its successful horticulture, niche food products, fabulous chocolates, boutique vineyards, art galleries, cafes and crafts. The Crafts Market, just across the road from the Farmer's Market, is a great place to find those unique gifts made here by a wide variety of artists and crafts persons. Kerikeri Airport on the western perimeter of the town is a busy commuter link with Auckland, and has a very active Bay Of Islands Aero Club. Manginangina in the Puketi Forest, hundreds of native birds gather to sing in the day. This has become a popular tourist attraction.
The Rainbow Falls, Maori name Waianiwaniwa, (Waters of the Rainbow), are a single-drop waterfall located on the Kerikeri River near Kerikeri in New Zealand. And They are one of the most visited attractions in the district. It is possible to drive almost to the falls, with walking also possible from the Stone Store basin.
Rewa's Village was constructed opposite the Stone Store in 1969 as a community effort to faithfully recreate a kainga (fishing village) which existed when Europeans arrived in New Zealand. It was named after Ngapuhi chief Rewa (also known as Maanu), who was one of three chiefly brothers originally belonging to the Ngai Tawake hapu; the other two brothers being; Te Wharerahi and Moka 'Kainga-mataa' who used to live here in the 1820s-1830s.
